What is the Exquisite Corpse?

Exquisite Corpse in a drawing game that has three different people draw three sections of the same body. This game was a favorite among college friends, and I was surprised that it didn’t exist yet, so I decided to create a concept design.

The Problem

This is a very fun game, and it would be fun to have a mobile version to play with anyone, anywhere.

Research

User Survey

A survey was created to research the habits and interests used by a millenial targeted audience.

Survey Results

100%

own a smartphone or tablet.

95.7%

have played a mobile game before.

83.3%

have never played "Exquisite Corpse" before.

78.3%

are interested in playing mobile games.

50%

are interested in seeing "Exquisite Corpse" as a mobile game.

55.6%

want to be able to share their finished drawings on social media.

  • Age also contributes to the fact that 95.7% have played games on a mobile device before. However, only 78.3% are interested in mobile games. People who weren’t interested felt that mobile games are too time consuming/wasteful.
  • Of those interested in mobile games, 27.8% like games that involved drawing on the screen with their finger, while 50% have no preference. This makes sense since there are a wide variety of games that involve swiping/drawing motions anyway, so most people probably don’t think about it.
  • 83.3% have never played the game “Exquisite Corpse”, showing it is not widely known, but 50% are interested in seeing it as a mobile game, which is a valuable insight.
  • All people interested in playing the game wanted to be able to play with a self-selected group. 77.8% wanted to play with random people nearby, 66.7% want to play with people anywhere, 44.4% want to be able to play by themselves.
  • 55.6% wanted to be able to share their finished “corpse” on social media, but 55.6% had no preference if they can print the finished “corpse”, which makes sense since most people save things digitally now anyway.
  • 55.6% would like to have access to pre-design templates and components, and 77.8% would like to be able to create and save their own templates and components. 66.7% would like to be able to save an entire drawn section to reuse.

High Fidelity Mockups

Before testing:

After testing:
mock1

Through the development process, the mock up designs changed quite a bit. Initially there were three different fonts and five colors. As I started paring things back to find the best MVP, it changed to one type style for the logo, and three colors overall. The positioning of the logo also changed quite a bit, as the initial orientation looked too much like an “s”.
